KRAV MAGA WEST.

Self defence classes in West Bromwich

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Self defence has sadly become a necessity. Understandably most people fear violent threats and attacks. This brings about concerns and anxiety to everyday life which can be overwhelming. Members at Krav Maga West take a different view to self defence. They view it as a life skill which one day might save their lives.

At KMW we take a holistic approach to self protection incorporating skills ranging from overall awareness, avoidance and verbal de-escalation to accompany physical self-defence skills.

PROTECT YOURSELF

From the outset, the original concept of Krav Maga was to take the most simple and practical techniques from other fighting styles and make them rapidly teachable to military conscripts. Thereafter it was adapted for everyday civilians, women and children.

Krav Maga has a philosophy that emphasises aggression towards attackers and simultaneous defensive & offensive manoeuvres.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME

  • How old do you have to be to train?
The minimum age for training with KMW is 16 years old. However under 18s must have written consent of a parent in order to train.
  • I've no experience, can I do Krav Maga?"
Our classes are suitable for complete beginners. Many of our students have never done any kind of martial arts or self-defence before.Krav Maga was designed to instil these types of skills quickly and efficiently. Our experienced instructors will be there to build up fundamental skills and help you every step of the way. They will teach you exactly what to do at a suitable developmental pace. Everyone started at ground zero, even instructors.
  • How fit do you need to be?
The common misconception is that people feel they need to get fit before commencing Krav Maga training. It's just not true. Fitness is a personal attribute and can always be improved. Krav Maga suits everybody, not just professional fighters or fitness boffs. We work everybody to their own pace. But we always encourage you to strive for more. After a few months of training with us you will notice a huge improvement in your fitness. Our focus is getting you prepared for the dangers of the world, not a triathalon.
  • Is Krav Maga suitable for women?
Krav Maga is a self-defence system that anybody can use. It does not rely on size or strength to overcome your attacker, but simple instinctive techniques that anybody can learn. It is a perfect system for women to learn in order to become safer and be able to defence themselves.
  • Is it dangerous? Will I get hurt?
At Krav Maga West safety in training is our number one priority. Krav Maga requires contact between training partners so its possible that accidents can happen but as long as you follow the instructor’s guidance and respect your training partner you will be fine. Injuries more than the occasional bruise are very rare. We are required to ask you about your health via a short questionnaire prior to your trial lesson to assess and tailor your training plan. Our instructors are fully qualified first aiders.
  • Where are your classes?
Information about class locations and times can be found here www.kravmagawest.co.uk/classes
  • What happens in a typical training session?
A lot of fun and sweat! All our training sessions start with a warm-up. This is important to prepare the body and the mind for the training. After the warm up you will begin working on the specific subject material. This varies from week to week. Sometimes it will be a particular self-defence situation, like how to escape from various holds or chokes. Other times we may work on more general fighting skills like punching and kicking. Often we will combine elements of different topics into a single session. Throughout the session you will be working with a partner (or sometimes a small group), taking it in turns to practice the various techniques. The session will end with ‘summary drills’ where we will put what we’ve learnt into a more realistic setting and add a level of stress.
  • How do I arrange a trial session?
It's really simple. Click here , find the best venue and fill in the contact form and we will get you booked in. We are sure you’ll enjoy the trial and you can join us fully afterwards
  • What should I wear to my trial class?
Tracksuit/training trousers and a t-shirt are ideal. Trainers are perfect. Bring some water too!
  • How much does it cost?
We have a variety of training plans available. Cost is dependent of how often you wish to train. Please complete the contact form so that we can get some information over to you regarding our classes and pricing.
  • Am i tied in to a contract at KMW?
No. All we ask is written notification of intention to leave the club/suspend membership 30 days before expected leaving date via email to: info@kravmagawest.co.uk
  • I have trained with another Krav Maga Club/Organisation before. Do I need a trial session?
If you have previous Krav Maga experience you do not need to enrol for the trial class and can start training straight away. Contact info@kravmagawest.co.uk to see what we can do for you. No joining fee required if you are a returning Krav Maga West member.
  • What if I miss a class?
If you're unable to attend a class one week, you're welcome to attend any of our other classes that month to make it up. However, be courteous and please let us know which class and when you wish to substitute for the missed class so that we can inform the relevant instructor. Please be aware that it's your responsibility to turn up to classes. There is no roll over for classes missed and payment for classes will not be stopped unless previously agreed.
  • How do I cancel my KMW membership?
Should you wish to leave KMW, we require just 30 days written notice of cancellation via email to: info@kravmagawest.co.uk
  • How do I rejoin KMW?
Contact us at info@kravmagawest.co.uk to let us know you want to return and we'll reactivate your membership. No membership fee is required if you are returning within 12 months of your last membership renewal.
  • Does Krav Maga have competitions?
Krav Maga is NOT a Martial Art or a sport. It's purely a system built to give someone the maximum chance of surviving a violent assault. Because of this approach, we often use techniques and tactics not permissable in the competition setting.
  • Is the training rough?
The main goal of training at KMW is to prepare students for the reality of a violent conflict. To replicate this as best we can, there must be physical contact between you and your training partner. But the idea is not to hurt each other in training. We reduce the risk of injury by defining the level of contact allowed in a lesson at set times as well ensuring that our students are wearing suitable protective gear. Safety is the number one concern in training and we do all we can to ensure that training is done in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Do you spar?
Yes. Sparring regularly is an important part of any self-defence training. However, in keeping with our emphasis on safety in training, sparring is introduced gradually and is done at an appropriate level for each student with adequate protective gear.
  • How often should I train? How long does it take to learn?
The two questions go hand in hand. Like anything, the more you train the better you will become. Of course everybody has different amount of time that they can invest in training, but to really get the benefit and make progress you should train at least once a week. If you really want to see faster improvement then two or three times a week is recommended.
  • Do I need any equipment?
Krav Maga involves controlled physical contact and with any activity involving contact comes the inherent risk of personal injury. We make no exceptions at KMW, so we require that all of our members wear protective equipment during class. The minimum requirement for training is a groin guard and gum shield. Boxing gloves and head guard for sparring sessions. You can find all required training kit at our Krav Shop here.
  • Who is Krav Maga for?
Adults of all abilities and ages At KMW we exclude nobody - We have taught every type of student. Men and women from all ages of 16 to 65!
  • Is Krav Maga hard to learn?
Easy to learn, hard to forget, our training quickly equips everyday people with practical skills in a safe, enjoyable environment, led by qualified instructors.
  • Do I need any experience?
No previous experience needed, Our training quickly equips everyday people with practical skills in a safe, enjoyable environment, led by qualified instructors.
  • Do I need to be fit to learn?
Not at all,You will get fit as a consequence of doing Krav Maga but it will be more fun than slogging it out at the gym! Our job is to get you prepared for a potentially violent situation NOT a triathalon.
